WHITNEY HOUSTON DIED OF AN ACCIDENTAL DROWING AND THE effects of cocaine and heart disease, the Los Angeles coroner's office announced Thursday.
Investigators will still trying to determine how much cocaine the beloved but troubled singer had in her body when she died. She was found submerged in a Beverly Hilton hotel Feb. 11.
The 48-year-old singer was supposed to have turned her life around. Sister-in-law Pat Houston told Oprah Winfrey on the OWN special that Houston had been making positive changes in her life even though pictures of the singer the night before her death showed otherwise. Whitney appeared "out of it" that same evening she had an alleged confrontation with X Factor contestant Stacey Francis over Ray J at a pre-Grammy party.
"Things were really changing with her. It wasn’t about substance abuse or anything relative to the latter days. I was afraid for other things, lifestyle, more so,” Patricia Houston told Winfrey.
Coroner Craig Harvey declared the death accidental and said toxicology tests also turned up marijuana, Xanax (anti-anxiety medication), Flexeril (muscle relaxant) ,Benadryl (anti-histamine) but none of those drugs contributed to her death. No trauma and foul play were suspected in the entertainer's death, the coroner's office said. TMZ reports that a source close to the investigation speculates that Whitney may have had a heart attack, causing her to lose consciousness and drown. "The heart attack may have been triggered by hardening of the arteries as a result of cocaine use," the online tab reported.
Is anyone really surprised by the final report? The plain and simple fact is Whitney went out like a rock star.
