I'M NOT REALLY INTO MALE STRIPPERS BUT THE MAGIC MIKE TRAILER, starring Channing Tatum and directed by Steve Soderberg, could make me work up a sweat.
The film is partially based on Tatum's life as a stripper in Florida when he went under the stage name of Chan Crawford at a Chippendales-style revue called Male Encounter in 1999. The 21 Jump Street alum stars as Magic Mike, a stripper entrepreneur who tries to combine love and life with partying and, of course, hot girls.
The film co-stars Alex Pettyfer, (engaged to Elvis's grandaughter Riley Keough), Cody Horn and Matt Bomer. Sexy Matthew McConaughy is the strip club owner and emcee, at first glance, it looks like he steals the show. But then again, having Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer and Matt Bomer all portraying strippers; well my prayers have been answered.
Both Tatum and Soderbergh compare Magic Mike to the 80's disco flick Saturday Night Feverwhich starred John Travolta. Soderbergh also directed Traffic, Erin Brockovich, Ocean's 11franchise. Magic Mike looks like it's his Sex, Lies and Videotape for the iPod generation.
Channing teases we "don't know want to know" what he has to do for $20s, but if that were true there wouldn't be a movie. There is no need to do any more marketing to me: I'll be sitting in the last row with trench coat and sunglasses on when the day it comes out.
Magic Mike" arrives in theaters on June 29, the same day as Tatum's other summer feature,G.I. Joe: Retaliation and I have one last question: Why wasn't this film done in 3D or Imax?
